Intransparent switch to LimeWire

I've been using SnapDrop regularly because it sends files through my local network only – perfect for sharing between devices at home.

Now it suddenly uses LimeWire and the files get uploaded to some cloud. Has this project been compromised? If SnapDrop has actually been "acquired" by Limewire as the README states, shouldn't users at the very least get warned about their files being uploaded and not staying within their local network?

I opened up Snapdrop today and was confused thinking I mistyped the URL and got to a phishing/scam site.

I don't understand how Snapdrop got bought out if it was open source? Did the original creator of Snapdrop just sell his soul?

The latest version of the Android app removes Snapdrop.net support and switches fully to PairDrop to ensure a secure and private experience. It may take some days though, until the update is visible for everyone in the store.

I strongly recommend not using Snapdrop anymore, as files now seem to be uploaded to the cloud instead of staying on the local network.

There've been red flags like a year ago or so, when the site itself was down for some amount of time. Then there was reliability issues for me. Thank god for alternatives

Do you know any other alternatives of in-browser local network share apps like old SnapDrop?
I know about https://pairdrop.net/ but I can't send images via pasting there.
