Allow custom control to query video latency through the API #26

@gostay

Description

@gostay

Request: Allow custom control to query current known video latency through the API.

This would open up much superior experiences, including:

  • having visual elements move around and exactly match the position of something visual moving in the stream (e.g. player name over a character).
  • triggering effects and sounds in a custom control exactly when they happen in the stream (e.g. when your own grenade lands)
  • disguising latency, e.g. covering up things in the custom control until changes have shown up in the stream.
  • making user input much more accurate, e.g. controlling an entity's movement based on where the player currently sees it in the stream.

Mike B. says:
"Hey we're pretty interested in this scenario but unfortunately it's not something that's possible right now. It's on our list of things we want to do though!"

So, I just wanted to make sure this request is public. We've repeatedly run into cases where this would make for much better user experiences, so if it's possible in the future, we'd sure love it.
