Thank you for start this important module, We develop a website by PI for one of our customers : http://www.payamakyab.com/
At this moment and after two months they have more than 1000 users, And users use both of android application and website.
They have some problems / need on new version of user module :
1- multi step registration and custom form ( I see it on your work )
2- multi level of confirm user information :
- simple register and set user / pass and some extra info ( level 1 )
- confirm email ( level 2 )
- confirm phone number ( level 3 )
- confirm psychical address ( level 4 )
But in each website it different, one website need all of them and other website need just confirm email and other one don't need all of them.
Check user side on facebook and twitter and google
3- it just my idea, some sub module or connected controller on user module. for example on user profile all comment / news / image / blog entry and more linked on other module :
http://www.site.com/user/voltan : my profile
http://www.site.com/user/voltan/gallery : All of my images on gallery
http://www.site.com/user/voltan/blog : all of my blog entry
http://www.site.com/user/voltan/comment : All of my comments
and ...
But gallery / blog / comment ... are controller on other modules and just connected to user module
4- use oauto for register / login / any activity by mobile application users on website by mobile app / or perhaps desktop apps
