GPU usage spikes with GIFs

I've noticed, and now I think this might be why Slack doesn't add a black theme by default, that using the dark theme makes Slack lag a lot when using many GIFs. Who hasn't send a wall of :partyparrot:, right? Well I had to restart Slack and spam the chat to make it go up and out of the screen. Here's a graph of how it looks from idle, to pasting 60+ GIFs and then spamming the chat until it's gone.

Any idea if this is even "fixable"?
