Research in Web and Knowledge

At Web and Knowledge (WaKe), we work to make the web a smarter, more adaptive, and human-centered environment. We investigate how web technologies and knowledge management can be integrated to create digital solutions capable of understanding and better responding to user needs.

Since 2012, under the direction of Irene Garrigós Fernández, we have developed knowledge-based methods and tools that enhance the design, personalization, and intelligence of web applications. Our research areas include data mining, web intelligence, and semantic data integration, aimed at transforming complex information into useful knowledge.

Main Research Areas

Below is a summary of the main areas in which we develop our research work:

  • Knowledge-Based Web Engineering
Methods and models for designing intelligent Web applications based on knowledge and user personalization.

  • Knowledge Discovery
Analysis and mining techniques aimed at extracting value from heterogeneous structured data.

  • Advanced Data Integration
Methods for combining and managing complex data: relational, NoSQL, Linked Data, Open Data, and Big Data.

  • Web Intelligence and Data Quality
Solutions to improve quality, traceability and interpretation of knowledge in Web environments.

Current Projects

We are currently developing the following projects:

  • HELEADE — TSI-100121-2024-24
Funded by the Ministry of Digital Transformation and Public Function and the European Union NextGenerationEU / PRTR

  • CLIO — TSI-100130-2024-69
Funded by the Ministry of Digital Transformation and Public Function and the European Union NextGenerationEU / PRTR

(More projects will be added as they become publicly accessible.)

Collaboration Opportunities

We welcome collaboration with research groups, public institutions, and industry partners interested in:

  • Advanced software engineering
  • Intelligent Web systems
  • Data analysis and knowledge extraction
