Hints
Hints are given by NPCs or stationary objects, and provide information about the location of items, spells, or sword techniques.
The location can refer either to a palace boss or to one of the four continents. If a boss name is mentioned (Horsehead, Helmethead, Rebonack, Carock, Gooma, or Barba), the item will be found in that boss's palace. If not, the hint will specify which continent it’s on: West Hyrule, East Hyrule, Death Mountain, or Maze Island.
When enabled, helpful hints are scattered throughout the world. These hints are provided either by townspeople (stationary NPCs only) or by written text on walls. All hint locations correspond to places where readable text appears in the vanilla game.
- Every town has an equal chance to be picked to contain a hint - regardless of how many potential hint NPCs it has.
- Only one helpful hint can appear in each town. (Note: Town Name hints and Spell Item hints do not count towards this.)
The NPCs who can give out hints in each town are listed below. Note that all of the NPCs are stationary - none of the NPCs that walk through town will give you useful hints.

- *If Include Spells in Shuffle is enabled, one hint will point to one of Fairy, Reflect, or Thunder.
- One hint will refer to a less important item (Heart Container, Magic Container, P-Bag, etc.). All the remaining hints will refer to more important items or spells.
- Spell Items may appear as helpful hint items only if Spell Item Hints are disabled.
When enabled, if visiting a spell location without the required quest item:
- The blocking lady in Ruto, Mido, and Darunia will give a hint to the required item's location (Trophy, Medicine, and Child).
- With Include Quest Items in Shuffle enabled, this also applies to Saria (Mirror) and Nabooru (Water).
- With Include Sword Techniques in Shuffle enabled, you can get hints about the locations of Downstab and Upstab by talking to the closed door of the Mido Church and the Upstab knight's house in Darunia.
The town entrance sign for each town will display the item or spell given by that town's wizard.
