Palace styles

Vanilla

The same layout as the base game. If shorten palaces is on, 25% to 50% of rooms in the palace are removed. The only rooms that can be removed are rooms that have exactly 2 exits, and aren't entrance/item/boss rooms.

Vanilla Shuffle

The same rooms as the vanilla version of that palace, but the structure of them is reordered. The palaces will be the same size as they are in the original game.

Reconstructed

The classic generated palace style. A new palace is created from the room pool selected. Rooms can connect anywhere, and the geometry is not guaranteed to make sense. Going left 3 times could put you back where you started. However, a connection between two rooms will be the same in both directions - if you enter a room and turn around you will always go back to the previous room.

Sequential

The palace is built from the selected room pool on a coordinate grid. You can only loop back to a previous room by taking a series of exits that form a complete loop — for example, going Right → Down → Left → Up from a room will bring you back to the same room.

Rooms are placed down one-by-one wherever they will fit. Afterwards, dead ends are added to any unconnected exits.

This results in no bias in terms of which rooms are used, but introduces a bias in the shape of the palace based on the available rooms. This style also tends to create more dead ends than other styles.

Random Walk

The palace is built from the selected room pool on a coordinate grid. You can only loop back to a previous room by taking a series of exits that form a complete loop — for example, going Right → Down → Left → Up from a room will bring you back to the same room.

First, a random layout of connected room shapes is generated. Then rooms that have exit types that fit each shape are placed into it.

Duplicate rooms may show up in this palace style, regardless of No Duplicate Rooms-settings. This happens when the generated layout ends up having more rooms of a shape than are available in the room pool.

Unlike the Sequential style, this avoids a bias in the shape of the palace, but introduces a bias in which rooms are selected. Rooms that are among the few rooms of their shape are going to appear a lot more often than rooms of common shapes.

Chaos

The opposite of sane layouts. Every exit takes you to another room, but the return path is not guaranteed to take you back to the room you came from. It will be possible to visit all rooms via some path. This style does not appear via any random option. Play at your own risk.

Random (All Same)

A random style (other than chaos) is selected, and all palaces will have that style.

Random (Per Palace)

For each palace, a random style (other than chaos) is selected. Each palace's style may be different.
